When pure moxa wool burns, it retains its medicinal efficacy, allowing the heat to penetrate the meridians. In contrast, the heat from carbonized moxa sticks remains on the surface of the skin. However, burning moxa wool inevitably produces smoke. Therefore, equipping a smoke exhaust device is essential.
